Posed or studio shooting. If you and your clients decide to use such newborn photo ideas, keep in mind that the best time to photograph newborns is within the first two weeks of birth. The infant will be drowsy and “foldable.”

Lifestyle shooting. This is a more relaxed approach to recreating newborn photography ideas. Of course, there will be some posing, but the main goal of this type of photography is to capture natural and lively images of the baby and his or her surroundings.

As for me, I try to maximize the benefits of both types of newborn photography. For example, if you’re working on a studio shoot, you can take some lifestyle shots during your breaks. Do not squander your time. Even the feeding process provides an excellent opportunity to capture some memorable images.

Tip No. 2: Don’t Forget About Preparation

One of the best baby photography tips is to make a list of everything you’ll need for the shoot. You can bet there will be a lot of items, so start packing the night before.

• Main and backup camera
• Lenses
• Memory cards
• Stand for background and clamps
• Beanbag for the newborn
• Some funny toys if there’s a toddler in the shoot
• Space heater
• Various props (pillows, blankets, wraps)
• Big blankets for the backdrop

• Waterproof pads
• A change of clothes (in case of some accidents)
